The boys’ soccer team had a solid second half to the 2018 season. The Hillies went 4-2-3 over their last nine games, including a thrilling 4-4 tie against Gloucester in the season finale. They posted the highest win percentage by a Hillies boys’ soccer team since 2011.
The girls’ volleyball team finished the season with seven straight victories to post a 15-5 record, the best season for the Hillies since 2013. The squad has secured a spot in the upcoming MIAA Division 1 North Tournament.
The girls’ soccer team went 7-1-2 over its last eight games to improve to 9-4-3 overall. The Hillies put together one of the most impressive three-game winning streaks in program history, defeating division rivals North Andover (2-0), Central Catholic (2-1) and Tewksbury (2-1). The Hillies are expected to secure a high seed in the upcoming MIAA playoffs slated to start on Friday.
The girls’ swim team was edged by Central Catholic in the final meet of the regular season on Friday to finish with an overall record of 7-2. The Hillies now gear up for some exciting post-season events, including the MVC Championship (Nov. 4), the MIAA Sectionals (Nov. 11) and the MIAA State Championship (Nov. 18).
Haverhill High School Crew participated at the annual Massachusetts Public School Rowing Associations Fall championships on Sunday at the UMass Lowell boathouse. The team has had one of its most productive seasons yet in its young history. The boys’ first varsity eight boat finished 7th overall, its highest finish ever.
The Haverhill cross country teams competed in the 2018 MVC Championship race on Saturday at Chelmsford. Keith May placed fourth and Andrew Harrison was 21st to lead the boys to a 7th place team finish. On the girls’ side, Gabby DeRoche (21st) and Ivey Ackerman (32nd) were the top finishers for the Hillies.
The Hillie football team was knocked out of the MIAA Division 1 North Playoffs on Friday night with a loss at St. John’s Prep. The Hillies will carry a 4-4 record into its final three games. They travel to Peabody on Friday night for a 7:00 PM start.
