It has been a season you only dream about for the Haverhill wrestling program. With a win over the No. 3 ranked team in the state on Wednesday night, the Hillies finished with a perfect dual meet record. They defeated Shawsheen 49-27 to complete the regular season with a 21-0 record.
The Hillies have had numerous accomplishments this season, the most impressive of which may have been Merrimack Valley Conference title. The Hillies ran through the strongest conference in the state with 10-0 record. This included wins over the defending state champs Chelmsford as well as perennial powers Methuen and Central Catholic.
Haverhill’s success extended beyond the state lines as they won two prestigious tournaments in New Hampshire. The Hillies took down Timberlane in its own tournament, becoming the first school in almost three decades to defeat the host at that event. They went on to win the Captial City Classic in Concord, NH, defeating some of the best programs in New England including Bishop Hendrickson of Rhode Island. The went 4-0 here in Haverhill at the Hillie Duals to grab yet another first place trophy.
Haverhill will look to continue its incredible run in the post-season. The Hillie wrestlers will compete in the MIAA Division 1 North Sectionals this Saturday at Methuen High School.
