The Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover (HPNA) girls’ hockey team continued its incredible run through the regular season last week. The Hillies pulled out a 3-1 victory over Billerica-Chelmsford to remain unbeaten on the year. The team is now 13-0-2 heading into its game at Westford on Thursday afternoon.
The gymnastics team finished the regular season with a 5-3 record and was runner-up in the Merrimack Valley Conference (MVC). The team will compete in the MVC Championship meet on Thursday afternoon.
Haverhill High School hosted the 2020 MVC Boys’ Swim & Dive Championship on Thursday, January 30 at the Charles C. White Pool. Daniel McLaughlin led the way for the Hillies with two victories. The sophomore won the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke. Freshman Casey Connors placed third in the 100 yard freestyle. McLaughlin, Connors, Eze-eldin Mohammed and Jacob Spreadborough will compete in the MIAA Sectionals this weekend.
Jake Nicolosi recently broke the school record for wrestling wins with 151 in his career. The senior led the Hillies to a 50-30 victory over Lowell last Wednesday. The Hillie Duals will be held this Saturday with 11 teams from across the state and New Hampshire traveling to Haverhill to compete.
Both basketball teams are still in the playoff hunt. The girls’ team picked up a convincing 66-31 win over Lawrence to improve to 7-8 on the season. The boys’ team dropped a closed game to Billerica to fall to 9-6. Both teams are in action this Friday night against North Andover, with boys playing at home and girls on the road.
The boys’ hockey team scored a season-high seven goals in a 7-3 win over St. Joseph’s last week. The Hillies will travel to Lowell on Sunday.
The indoor track teams participated in the MSTCA Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday. Finleigh Simonds and Hayden Makarow led the way with fifth place finishes in the 2-mile and 600 meter runs respectively. The Hillies will now prepare for the MVC Championship meet, which will be held on February 7.
The indoor track teams will participate in the 2020 MVC Championship meet on Friday. The meet will start at 2:00 PM at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
